Researching the Weather

So here we are, one day away from the research presentation and less than two weeks away from the big trip to our site!

I've been working hard on my presentation about Las Vegas's climate. In some ways, I'm lucky to have this as my topic, since a lot of the research I've done has just been to find hard numbers and data, as well as look to the wisdom of desert dwellers throughout time to discover effective strategies for living there comfotably. Arranging that data into a logical and compelling presentation is a bit more challenging, though. I've really been trying to challenge myself on graphics with this presentation. Usually I'm pretty good with hierarchy and logic in my presentations, but I'm a lot weaker with using color and negative space effectively. This has been the biggest struggle for me with this presentation.

Another question for this is how much information to present. Like, do we really need to know the record highest wind speed every measured in Las Vegas? Is the psychrometric chart really going to help us understand what it's like to be there? I'm not sure. I'm trying to pick out the information that really stands out to me as yes, this is helpful and relevant! and highlight it.

I'm really looking forward to seeing and hearing everyone else's analyses of their topics tomorrow. I think it will give us all a lot to think about and a frame of reference for the site visit next Friday (!). Now, if only I can get my boards finished...
